Adenia venenata, from Yemen and East Africa (Somalia through Tanzania) has a conical caudex up to 4 feet tall. The leaves are deeply lobed, and the flowers of this dioecious (male and female flowers) species are small and cream colored. The fruit are striped with two shades of green. The woody vines arise from the caudex. Adenia venenata grows fast with regular water in the warm months. Trim it back once or twice a year to emphasize the base of the plant.
