Ferocactus pottsii var. alamosanus is a rare and distinctive barrel cactus that has depressed globular stems that are usually solitary but sometimes clump. The straw-colored spines are needle-like and densely intermeshed and have a reddish tinge in the new growth. Known only from a restricted area E of Alamos, Sonora, Mexico.
