Often
called Shindagger, this endemic indicator plant for the Chihuahuan
Desert, has downward hooked spines, yellow-green leaves, and clumps
freely. It is very cold hardy, as it is growing outside here in Las
Vegas, where the winter night time temperatures regularly drop below
freezing. Reflective light is better in the hot summer sun of the
desert. The leaves turn yellow in extreme desert sunlight; green if
slightly shaded. You are selecting a 10-12 inch plant.
