Introduction to Adenium Plants

Adeniums have two great attributes: they have great flowers and they form large bases. This family of plants is very easy to grow and is very forgiving of grower mistakes. Adenium plants are bred for new flower colors and patterns just as roses and other flowering plants are. White and yellow flowers are the most difficult to create. Novice growers of Adeniums need only remember a few key points to be successful.

  1. Adeniums are summer growers and can be watered and fed  regularly if planted in fast draining soil. Let the soil dry between watering if you are in a humid climate. Most of your growth will be during the warm season and the plant will have the most leaves. The plant will also grow best in bright to full sunlight depending on your climate. We keep them growing outside in full summer heat under 50% shade cover hear in Las Vegas.
  2. Flowering is most abundant during late summer to early fall. If you can keep the plant warm during this time, you'll get the best flowering activity.
  3. During the cool months protect the plant from frost to keep it alive. The plant normally rests during this period and water should be kept to a minimum. However, you can keep the plant active, if you can keep it above 50 degrees F.
