Agave victoria reginae is endemic to the arid lower elevations of the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains in northeastern Mexico (Huasteca canyon and adjacent areas just south of Saltillo). Agave victoria reginae grows in profusion on the steep slopes and near vertical cliffs of the canyon walls. It is hardy to 10 degrees F. This is a very large Agave victoria reginae v. compacta. The compact version typically, does not grow as wide, but grows taller, looking more cylindrical rather than spherical with age. The compact form also has consistently bright white stripes.
